Ayurveda and Lifestyle
The word ayurveda has originated from two sanskrit words – ‘ayu’ means life, and veda’ means knowledge. Ayurveda or ayurveda medicine is a holistic healing system with historical roots in the indian subcontinent. Globalized and modernized practices derived from ayurveda traditions are considered as a type of complementary or alternative medicine.
Tridosha theory a dosha (dosa), according to ayurveda, is one of three bodily senses of humor that make up one’s constitution. It is believed the balance of these three doshas, namely vatha (wind), pitha (bile), and kapha (phlegm), that the mental and physical wellbeing of everyone is determined.
Vāta or vata (wind) is the impulse principle necessary to mobilize the function of the nervous system. It affects the windy humor. Those with dominant ‘vāta’ characteristics are more on the fragile side. Their constituency leads them towards dry scalp and hair with dehydrated, rough, wrinkled and skin.
Kapha (phlegm) is the fluid body principle related to mucus, lubrication, and the carrier of nutrients. They usually have soft, thick hair and more oily, smooth, hydrated skin.
